Summer Glow-Up: Chapter #2 - Exercise & Summer Fun!

Welcome back to the second chapter of the Summer Glow-Up series! If you’re new here, every week this month we are releasing a Chapter on self-care in all different forms. 

This week, we’ll be discussing physical self-care along with some summer fun activities! It’s no question that almost all articles on “How to self-improve” include a section dedicated to exercising. But, why is that so important? Well, exercising is known to relieve stress by releasing endorphins.

Benefits of Exercising

Improve your Mental Health 

Physical activity helps reduce stress and feelings of depression due to the elevated amount of endorphins (a happy hormone released after a workout). Exercise not only releases endorphins, but also improves your cognitive function as well. Let’s face it - EVERYONE faces stress due to various reasons - it can be that work is piling up, new to parenting, this pandemic, etc. Exercising can greatly help you release the tension! 

Improves your Lifespan

Since exercising reduces your chances of heart disease and some cancers, strengthens your bones and muscles, this all contributes to living a longer life!

Alleviate Period Pain 

Periods are the worst! Some of us deal with awful cramps, and others deal with headaches and dizziness. Exercising can actually help reduce the amount of period symptoms! I know what you’re thinking: “The last thing I want to do is move on my period.”  

Totally get it! But, it’s been proven that physical activity helps with the movement of the contracting muscles, thus, reducing the cramps! As a following effect, it may reduce other symptoms as well. This doesn’t mean you have to take on a high intensity workout, you can easily start with a walk around the neighborhood!

Summer Fun Activities


If you love enjoying views of nature and being in the water, you’ll love kayaking! This activity is family friendly, perfect for bonding with your little ones. Filled with laughter and peaceful energy, kayaking is a great way to spice up your summer vacations! (Not to mention the awesome arm workout!)

Bring a friend and get climbing!

Roller Skate around your Neighborhood! 

Roller skates have been making a comeback the past few years, and we’re living for it! Instead of walking your dog, go ahead and grab a pair of roller skates and skate away! Such a fun and simple way to spice up your everyday routine. You don’t need to live in a specific location or have fancy equipment to skate! Just have fun in your neighborhood!
